The PRIMMER law firm has announced that Michael Hill is joining the firm.
Michael Hill, who began his career as a law clerk for The Honorable Albert W. Coffrin, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in Burlington, is joining the Primmer firm, leading our office in Washington, DC while also practicing part-time from our Montpelier office. Since moving to Washington in 1986, Michael served as a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice where he received awards for Outstanding Service and Special Achievement; Partner in a large Washington law firm; and Chairman of the Environmental Practice in Marsh, Inc., the world’s largest insurance broker. Following Michael’s nomination by the White House Council of Environmental Quality, Michael also served as General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer of the $800M Environmental Trust created by the U.S. Government, fourteen states and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe to remediate and redevelop the 89 industrial properties left behind in the GM bankruptcy. The Trust is the largest such trust in U.S. history addressing what is also the U.S.’s largest industrial bankruptcy. While continuing in private practice, from 2005 to 2015, Michael helped the U.S. Air Force remediate and transfer over 4,000 acres of property into private hands where over 13,000 jobs have been created. His clients also include the world’s largest private redeveloper of contaminated lands and several other “brownfield” developers, industrial companies and non-profits that have remediated contaminated land and returned it to productive use, and two that have placed “solar parks” atop closed municipal landfills. Michael practices in the areas of environmental law, insurance coverage placement and claims (environmental and D&O), and captive insurance and other alternative risk transfer mechanisms.
