AOT Road Construction Report
Week of 4/29/24

Interstates

I-91 Bradford
A permanent, single lane closure has been established on I-91 Southbound near Exit 16. Daily, single lane
closures will be implemented as needed on Northbound. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph is in place
through the work zone.

I-91 Derby
A paving project is starting up on I-91 in both directions from Exit 27 in Derby to the Canadian border.
Single lane closures for marking the centerline for milling in both directions between Exits 27 and 29 are
planned to begin late this week.

I-91 Fairlee
A ledge stabilization project has begun along the southbound lanes of I-91 between Exits 16 and 15 in
Fairlee. A full closure of both southbound lanes of I-91 is in effect. All southbound traffic will exit the
interstate at Exit 16 and detour along U.S. Route 5 to Exit 15 in Fairlee. Delays may occur along the detour
route.

I-89 Richmond
Motorists will encounter a single lane closure for both I-89 Northbound and Southbound passing lanes
Monday, 4/29, through Friday, 5/3, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

I-89 Royalton
There will be high-speed lane closures on both I-89 Northbound and Southbound through the bridges near
Exit 3 during the week. Closures will be removed on the weekends. The speed limit will be reduced to 55
mph in the work zone.

I-91 Springfield-Hartland
A paving project is starting on I-91 Southbound where a daily, single lane closure is planned to begin
between Exits 8 and 9 and progress south over the course of the week. A speed limit reduction to 55 mph
will be in place through the work zone.

I-91 Westminster
A bridge deck replacement project on I-91 over Vermont Route 121 is underway. On the interstate,
northbound traffic has been diverted to the southbound barrel, resulting in one lane of travel in each
direction. A speed reduction is in place. A full closure of VT 121 at the location of the bridges is in effect
until 5/15 at 3:00 p.m. The signed detour will utilize Back Westminster Rd., the I-91 Access Rd., and U.S.
Route 5.

State Highways

Bennington-Pownal
Weather permitting, repairs to bridge joints on VT 279 will continue from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with lane
closures expected near the repair sites. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving through this
area.

Brattleboro-Hinsdale
The northbound shoulder adjacent to the new bridge construction site on VT 142 (approximately 1,000 feet
south of the intersection with VT 119) will be closed and motorists should watch for vehicles entering and
exiting the work zone. Steel delivery is planned for Monday, 4/29, and Wednesday, 5/1 which will require a
brief stop of all traffic on VT 142 while the steel is lifted and set in place.

Cambridge-Johnson
A resurfacing project is underway along VT 15 in Cambridge and Johnson. Monday, 4/29 through Friday,
5/3, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Motorists can expect moderate delays and three traffic control
packages with alternating one-way traffic on VT 15 throughout the project limits.

Colchester
Monday, 4/29 through Friday, 5/3, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., motorists can expect lane shifts and
intermittent stoppages along U.S. Route 7 between the Shell Gas Station and its intersection with Wiley
Road to facilitate independent utility work ahead of the start of construction for the Colchester Exit 17
project.

Coventry
Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., motorists should expect alternating one-way lane closures
on VT 14 over Stony Brook near the junction with VT 100 in Coventry.

Fairfax - St. Albans
Resurfacing will continue on VT Route 104 between Fairfax and St. Albans. Motorists can expect delays
and alternating one-way traffic during daytime hours.

Grafton
A bridge replacement project is underway on VT 121 East over the Saxtons River in Grafton. Traffic signals
are in place on either end of the bridge, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing for
alternating one-way traffic over the existing bridge.

Irasburg
Bridge 129 over Black River on VT 14 in Irasburg remains closed to all vehicle traffic. A state signed detour
is in place during traffic from VT 14 to U.S. Route 5 and VT 58, to connect back to VT 14.

Ludlow
The removal of Bridge 57 and the installation of a pedestrian bridge is underway on Mill Street. Pleasant
Street at its junction with Mill Street is closed to all vehicle traffic. A detour routes vehicle from Pleasant
Street along Elm Street, Main Street, to Pleasant Street Extension.

Marshfield-Danville
Between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., motorists can expect delays and alternating one-way traffic
on U.S. Route 2 from English Cemetery Road to the intersection with VT 232 in Marshfield Village.

North Hero
A bridge deck replacement project on U.S. Route 2 between North Hero and Alburgh nears completion.
Please expect flagged traffic at the location of the bridge throughout the week. Minor delays may occur.

Northfield-Berlin
Motorists should expect multiple single lane closures with alternating one-way traffic throughout the length
of a paving project on VT 12 between Northfield and Berlin. Road surface repair work will continue
throughout the project and motorcyclists should use caution on roughened surfaces.

Pittsford
A bridge replacement project on U.S. Route 7 at the intersection of VT 3 is underway. Motorists can expect
traffic control present on U.S. 7, allowing for intermittent one-way of alternating travel between 7:00 a.m.
and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Quechee Gorge Bridge
The eastbound travel lane of the Quechee Gorge Bridge is closed through October and November of 2024.
New travel patterns include alternating travel controlled by a traffic signal and a concrete barrier to separate
motorists from workers.

Richmond-Bolton
A roadway resurfacing project continues along U.S. Route 2. Motorists can expect traffic control present
allowing for alternating single lane travel on U.S. 2 between Kenyon Road and Lemroy Court.

Richmond
The replacement of Bridge #29 along U.S. Route 2 over I-89 continues this week. Drivers may encounter
periodic lane closures with traffic control present to allow for one lane of alternating travel.

Rutland
A resurfacing project will begin next week on U.S. Route 7, U.S. Route 4, and U.S. Business Route 4 within
the City of Rutland limits. Monday, 4/29 through Friday, 5/3, between 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., motorists may
encounter a uniformed traffic officer assisting with traffic control as signs are installed throughout the project
area.

Work is continuing on the signal replacement taking place at U.S. Route 7 and Cold River Rd. Motorists can
expect daily lane closures as needed with a uniformed traffic officer and flaggers assisting traffic. Conduit
installation will continue at the intersection over the course of the next week.

St Albans - Sheldon
A resurfacing project is underway along VT 105 in St Albans to Sheldon Mile Marker 2.0. Starting Monday,
4/29 through Friday, 5/3. From 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Motorists can expect moderate delays with alternating
one-way traffic.

Worcester
Late this week, traffic on VT 12 over the North Branch of the Winooski River will be rerouted over the newly
constructed temporary bridge. Once traffic is switched over to the temporary bridge, alternating one-way
traffic will be maintained by traffic signals. The speed limit throughout the work zone and over the temporary
bridge has been reduced to 25 mph.
