New unpermitted sewage discharge in Poultney

Vermont Business Magazine A new unpermitted sewage discharge has been reported this morning by the ANR – Watershed Management in Poultney. High levels of bacteria were found in a municipal storm drain leading into the Poultney River. Unpermitted Discharge Incidents are discharges of wastewater, industrial process water, dumping or spills into waters of the state either directly or through stormwater-only drainage systems or other conveyance. These discharges have been identified and found that they may pose a threat to human health or the environment

2016/06/18 Swanton Missisquoi River 5 Foundry Street, Swanton Private Citizen Unknown petroleum product, unknown variety a rainbow sheen was observed on river, cause unknown. Release appears to be stopped but there is still a residual sheen. Clean up contractor was hired and is performing ongoing monitoring of location. Source of the contamination has not been identified, however as of 6/20/2016 @ 0900 the Agency verified the release has stopped (i.e. no more sheen on the surface water). the downstream booms were removed allowing boat access to the Missisquoi River. 2016/05/20 02:41PM Orange Wetland wetland near the intersection of Highway 302 and Reservoir Road State Spill driveway sealant (tar) Vermont HAZ-MAT team was notified by Emergency Management of an accident involving a pickup hauling a trailer; the trailer capsized causing the accident and associated spill of 40 gallons of driveway sealant (tar). The driver was evacuated. At time of notification approximately 15 gallons of the material had been removed through had excavation by the fire department and the cleanup contractor was in-route.
