Green Party's Jill Stein to secure spot on Vermont presidential ballot, seeks Bernie's supporters

Vermont Business Magazine Friday, July 29th at 1:30pm supporters of Jill Stein 2016, the presidential candidate for the Green Party, will submit 1,500 certified signatures, as well as necessary consent forms to the Secretary of State’s office at 128 Main Street, Montpelier, Vermont. Stein supporters will be there to give comments to the press. Over the past month, volunteers from all over Vermont have collected signatures by canvassing door to door, and at farmers’ markets, concerts and transfer stations. Signatures were gathered from Bennington and Brattleboro to Burlington, and small towns in the Northeast Kingdom. Signatures came in from over 65 towns across the state. The Green Party is running candidates across the country, and in Vermont there is a rebirth in excitement for Green politics, according to the campaign.

The enthusiasm for Jill Stein and an independent alternative to the two corporate parties was made visible when Stein visited the state in the middle of July, addressing a standing-room-only crowd in Burlington, and talking with energized voters while collecting signatures at the Montpelier Farmers’ Market.

Excitement is building for the campaign all over the state, as Vermonters get together to discuss issues of social, environmental, and economic justice. Bernie Sanders electrified the electorate with a democratic socialist solution to our capitalist problems. Since his endorsement of the candidate whose policies he opposed, thousands of people are joining the Stein campaign, making $27 donations, and volunteering to further the revolution. Last weekend Stein’s facebook page briefly crashed, because it could not handle the volume of people “liking” her page. Stein volunteer Elizabeth Parker of Montpelier sums up the sentiments of former Sanders supporters,“With Bernie Sanders’ recent endorsement of Hillary Clinton, an enthusiastic supporter of U.S. militarism and the TPP as well as a close friend to Wall Street, many Sanders supporters are looking to Jill Stein’s campaign to continue the political revolution, which is committed to creating clean energy, dismantling racism and ensuring living-wage jobs for all Americans.”
