Goddard board elects new chair

The Goddard College Board of Trustees elected Goddard alumna and longtime trustee Jill Mattuck Tarule as its new chair.

Jill Mattuck Tarule is a University of Vermont Professor Emerita and, as dean of the College of Educaiton and Social Services, was one of the university’s longest serving deans. Tarule is the recipient of the Pomeroy Award for Outstanding Contributions to Teacher Education, the Gender Equity Architect Award from the American Association of College of Teacher Education, and the Jackie M. Gribbons Leadership Award from the Vermont Women in Higher Education.

Tarule's parents, Robert and Corinne Mattuck, came to Plainfield in 1938 to help establish Goddard at the former Martin farm. After earning her bachelor's degree at Goddard, Tarule earned a master's and doctorate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She once served on Goddard’s faculty and as an administrator.

It has represented, and continues to lead as a model progressive and experimental educational institution that emphasizes individualized learning and assessment for students who are imaginative and responsible citizens. All of us on the Board and at the College are committed to ensuring that the current programs continue to thrive and that Goddard continues to grow as an exciting and creative institution. Goddard has an important place in higher education. I look forward to working with the fine people of the College and Board in this new role.”
