Davis named President-Elect of School Nutrition Association

Members of the School Nutrition Association (SNA) have spoken, casting their ballots for the top leadership positions for the organization that works to ensure all children have access to healthful school meals and nutrition education. Burlington School District (BSD) is pleased to announce that Director of Food Service Doug Davis has been selected to serve as President-Elect of the Board of Directors of this national organization.

“Time and time again research has shown that access to nutritious school meals is instrumental to success in learning,” said Doug Davis. “I am proud and humbled to have been selected by my peers to lead this amazing Association, and am grateful to the Burlington School District and community for seeing the bigger picture and allowing me to help accomplish this work not only on a local level but on the national level as well.”

“On behalf of our School District and Board of School Commissioners, I want to congratulate Doug on this honor and thank him for putting in the hard work to affect children’s lives around the country,” said Superintendent Obeng. “We all look forward to seeing Doug and the School Nutrition Association succeed.”

Davis has worked in the Burlington School District since 1997. His focus on food access created a program designed with the students and community in mind. He helped to start the Farm to School movement in Burlington in 2003 and has seen it grow into one of the nation’s largest. In working to create a viable and sustainable program, Davis has worked closely with his amazing child nutrition team, school administrators, teachers, support staff, community members, businesses, and farmers. His collaborative efforts have helped build an understanding of the importance child nutrition programs have to the success of our students.

Davis will be installed as president-elect this summer and will serve one year in the role before transitioning to President of the Board the following year. Davis co-chairs the Food Service Directors Association of Vermont purchasing cooperative and previously served as the chair of the SNA’s Public Policy and Legislation Committee.
