VABVI appoints new Teacher Of The Visually Impaired

The Vermont Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) announced today the appointment of Alexandra Futty to the position of Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) and an Orientation Mobility Specialist. “We’re very pleased and excited to have Alexandra join the VABVI,” stated Steven Pouliot, Executive Director for VABVI. “Her energy and experience give her a unique ability to connect with our clients. Forming those relationships, with a foundation of trust, is of primary importance to our ability to provide real support in a meaningful way.” Pouliot expanded.

Futty's responsibilities will include working closely with other teachers of the visually impaired and clients in the ongoing development, coordination and administration of programs and services needed to keep up with the growing challenges of the blind and visually impaired community throughout the State. Prior to joining VABVI, Futty had attended graduate school at Northern Illinois University where she received a Master’s Degree in special Education. She is a licensed teacher of the visually impaired and orientation specialist. “What I enjoy most at VABVI, and the reason I chose this position, is the exceptionally strong environment of mentoring and collaboration ins this organization” said Futty.

The organization is also continuing its year-long effort to raise an additional $90,000 in funding during their 90th year anniversary in 2016, through a variety of events and fund-raising efforts. The additional funding will assist with the rising costs of existing programs and the adoption of new, assistive technologies that are becoming available in the future.
