Vermont Business Magazine At a press conference Wednesday, Governor Phil Scott and Health Commissioner Mark Levine, MD, both addressed the growing divisiveness and heated rhetoric during the current Delta wave, reiterated the effectiveness of vaccines, and encouraged Vermonters to make informed choices and come together to continue moving the state forward. The Administration also announced an update to the Agency of Education advisory memo for schools, which extends the length of the universal masking guidance in schools to October 4. Schools have been an asked – and all but one has implemented – a policy to require masking for all those in schools.

Evaluating the moisture content of firewood can be tricky. Wood can be purchased when it is “green,” “seasoned,” “dried,” or “kiln dried,” but these are relative terms and wood is only ready to be burned when its moisture content is 20 percent or less. Wet wood is a waste.

Technical assistance and training available to Vermont’s composters

Vermont Business Magazine Registration is now open for the Vermont Compost Operator Certification Training. Due to the continued challenge of planning large in-person gatherings, we will again be offering a fully remote version of the Vermont Compost Operator Certification Training in winter 2022.

Hosted by Compost Technical Services, and presented by the VT Agency of Natural Resources (ANR), this workshop will provide participants with a Compost Operator Certificate, which meets the requirements of ANR for small, medium and large compost facility site operators.

Marlboro campus sale moves forward in $4.34 million deal

That entity, Potash Hill, Inc, will acquire the property's 533 acres and 52 buildings from Democracy Builders Fund.

School masking guidance extended until October 4

Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott at his regular press briefing today extended the school masking guidance until October 4. The initial guidance was for just the first 10 days of school. Also, unvaccinated state employees will now have to wear a mask at work. Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases remain just over 100, while hospitalizations are holding steady and ICU stays have fallen.

This extra help is part of the federal Coronavirus Relief Bill. It will not permanently change a household’s monthly benefit. It is a temporary increase to help during the health crisis.

AARP accepting grant applications from Vermont towns

Vermont Business Magazine AARP Vermont today announced the launch of a community grant program that aims to issue grants of $24,000 among six Vermont towns or cities. The goal is to jump start Winter Placemaking demonstration projects that create public spaces and streets that are safe and accessible for everyone. This is the fourth year of AARP’s Placemaking Grant Program which aims to help communities build social capital that can help lead to permanent change that supports healthy, active lifestyles for people of all ages and abilities.

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont’s specialty food producers will gather on Thursday, September 23rd at Artisans Park in Windsor, Vermont for an outdoor networking event with tastings, drinks, and small bites. Hosted by the Vermont Specialty Food Association (VSFA), The VSFA Fall Gathering is an opportunity for our members and the producer community to come together to mingle, reconnect, and enjoy some delicious member-produced food and drink. While usually in person, after a tumultuous year and a half members voted for a different event that would provide opportunities to network and enjoy each other's company by meeting safely in-person.
