Celebrates “best team” since founding 6 years ago

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont specialty food producer, Runamok, recently raised its entry-level production hourly wage to $20 per hour. The Fairfax-based company includes “being a business with integrity” in its mission statement on the same footing as creating its “products with a careful eye for flavor, ingredients, and design.” Runamok sells its premium organic maple syrups, honeys, and cocktail syrups & bitters nationwide.

Co-founder Eric Sorkin indicates that approximately 40 employees immediately benefit from this change as will the 20-25 team members who the company hopes to recruit this season.

“As a food producer, we are seeing the impact of today’s supply chain and labor shortage challenges putting pressure on prices. It’s crystal clear to me how impactful a wage increase is for our production workers and their families. But, more than anything else, it’s the right thing to do and it was time to resume our place, again, out front.”

In 2021 testimony in front of the U.S. House Of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Sorkin said, “As business owners, we do everything we can to support our employees. It sounds trite, but it is true: our business is no more, and no less, than the team that we build. We strive to make Runamok a place our employees are proud to work at. We want to provide the best for our employees and hope that they’ll want to do the same for us.”

While labor shortages have placed increased shift demands on workers in production companies across the state, Runamok aims to grow its business in a sustainable manner. Employee retention is a priority, so the work is designed to offer skill-building advancement at a rapid pace.
