Representative Heidi E Scheuermann As my eighth legislative session serving the people of Stowe comes to a close, I am announcing my intention to not seek reelection to the Vermont House of Representatives in 2022. This decision was not an easy one and is bittersweet, but it is the right one. It has been my privilege and my most sincere honor to serve the people of my hometown for the last 16 years. Growing up in Stowe, I never imagined such a tremendous opportunity, and have been so grateful for the support of my friends and neighbors throughout these years. It is difficult to look back at everything through the course of my 16 years, but I can say I very proud of my work to expand economic opportunities for all, to support our private sector by encouraging job and wage growth, and to ensure our most vulnerable Vermonters have the critical supports they need.
 

Vermont Business Magazine KEEN Utility, the work boot division of KEEN Inc. (KEEN), launched the She Builds Grant Program to champion the next generation of tradeswomen. The program pledges $1M in much needed product and financial support over the next five years to trailblazing nonprofit organizations in the United States and Canada dedicated to the empowerment and education of women seeking a career in the skilled trades. KEEN Utility announced the 2022 She Builds grants, selected by KEEN Utility and their fans, will go to Black Women Build-Baltimore, Girl's Garage, Vermont Works for Women, Oregon Tradeswomen, and British Columbia Institute of Technology's Trades Discovery for Women.

​Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Legislature on Monday gave final approval, via voice vote, to the Universal School Meals Act, S.100. The bill requires all Vermont students to have access to two meals per day during the 2022-23 school year. During the past two years, the federal government paid for meals for all students through pandemic waivers — this program expires in June, and without state action, 40,000 children could lose access to school meals this fall. If S.100 is enacted, the state will provide reimbursement to schools on top of regular (non-pandemic) federal funding provided for Universal School Meals. The Joint Fiscal Office estimates the one-year cost at about $29 million based on a range of factors. It could be lower or higher.

Vermont Business Magazine GlobalFoundries Inc (GF) (Nasdaq: GFS) today announced preliminary financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2022. GF operates a manufacturing plant that fabricates integrated circuits in Essex Junction, Vermont. GF is headquartered in Malta, NY. Record revenue of $1.94 billion, up 37% year-over-year; Record gross margin of 24.2% and adjusted gross margin of 25.3%; Record operating margin of 11.6% and adjusted operating margin of 14.4%; Record net income of $178 million and adjusted net income of $232 million; Record adjusted EBITDA margin of 36.0%; Cash and cash equivalents of $3.26 billion.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Health today is reporting 248 cases of COVID-19 for Monday (174 Sunday; 273 Saturday; 382 Friday). VDH also reported four additional deaths from the virus. The total death toll is now 648 lives lost. There are nine reported deaths in May so far. There were 18 deaths in April, which surpassed March's total (17). March saw the fewest COVID deaths since last July. Fatalities and hospitalizations increased the last part of April. Most recent deaths have been of the very elderly and/or people with underlying health conditions and "not up to date" on their vaccines, meaning eligible to have received a booster. All of today's deaths were of people who were at least 70.
