Vermont Business Magazine As part of the College of Graduate and Continuing Studies (CGCS) 2020 new program initiative, Norwich announced the new online Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics program and the online Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Information Systems program, both of which are set to begin in September 2020.

“Since 1819, Norwich has been committed to providing relevant and forward-looking programs to our students,” Vice President and CGCS Dean Bill Clements said. “As part of the CGCS 2020 new program initiative, the data analytics and computer science & information systems programs reflect these values, as well as providing lifelong learners with the opportunity to continue self-improvement and bring a new skill set to their workplaces.”

The online Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics program will continue Norwich University’s 200-year history of developing new and innovative programs. The program curriculum is designed to equip students with the necessary mathematics, computer science, critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to lead rational decision making based on accumulated data in companies as a data analyst. While students will learn the ethics and leadership values that a Norwich education aims to provide across all programs, students will also be able to delve into high-level programming languages, such as the data analysis tools Python, R and SAS.

Similarly, the online Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Information Systems program curriculum will build on Norwich’s ethics and leadership values while giving students the opportunity to grow their mathematics, programming and software engineering skills needed to be a distinct professional. The program’s objective is to provide students the national security principles, theories and practices that are essential for real-world challenges.

Reinforcing CGCS’ commitment to provide accommodating and accelerated programs and degrees, the new bachelor’s programs will allow prospective students to transfer up to 90 semester credit hours of prior college coursework, on-the-job and military training, certifications and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exams so that the program can be completed in as few as 18 months. With multiple start dates per year, working students can start either program when it best fits their busy schedules.  

CGCS named Associate Dean of Continuing Studies and Associate Professor Mark Parker, Ph.D., as acting program manager of the Bachelor of Science in Data Analytics program. Parker is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and has over 25 years of experience in higher education teaching and administration.

“In the past 20 years, stored data has developed rapidly, and with Norwich being at the forefront of new and innovative programs, providing students with access to learn the skills necessary to analyze large data sets and lead company decisions is the main goal of this program,” Parker said.

Henry Collier, MSMIIT, was named program manager of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science & Information Systems program. He has developed and taught courses in computer networking, systems administration, computer programming, relational database design and management, information assurance, network security, healthcare information technology and digital forensics. He has also served six years on active duty in the Army, and he currently has 23 years in the Army Reserves.

“Norwich recognizes the world will only continue to become more dependent on technology to execute daily responsibilities, and with the new online computer science & information systems program, we aim to provide students with the necessary mathematics and computer science skills needed to address these growing demands,” Collier said.

Norwich is launching seven new online programs throughout 2020 as part of the CGCS new program initiative. New programs include three new online bachelor’s degree completion programs: business administration, computer science & information systems, and data analytics, and four new online master’s programs: accounting, business analytics, information systems, and nurse practitioner, a new concentration within the existing online Master of Science in Nursing program. CGCS now has a total of nine online bachelor’s degree programs and 15 online master’s degree programs.
