Vermont Business Magazine The Southern Vermont Garlic & Herb Festival has now won the Vermont Chamber’s Top 10 Summer Event designation ten times in its history, which means that beginning in 2020, the Festival becomes a Time-Honored Top 10 Event for the rest of its existence! The Bennington Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed over 16,000 visitors to the 2019 Southern Vermont Garlic and Herb Festival on Labor Day Weekend this year, smashing the previously recorded record for the festival of 15,000.

"We are honored to have received the award 10 years running now; the Time-Honored award was quite a surprise for us,” commented Matt Harrington, executive director of the Bennington Regional Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the Garlicfest. “We weren’t really keeping track of how many years and the Vermont Chamber notified us that after ten years of receiving the award, the Garlicfest now is a Time-Honored event.”

Each year for the past 10 years the Bennington Chamber has filed paperwork right after Garlicfest concluded to be included in the Vermont Fall Top 10 Event competition put on by the Vermont Chamber.  With this recognition, the festival organizers will no longer have to submit in the Top 10 contest. Additionally, each year updates will be provided by Garlicfest organizers as Time-Honored Events are automatically featured in the Vermont Vacation Guides (both winter and summer/fall editions).

“Being notified about our time-honored award was so rewarding to be able to share with the team of dedicated volunteers who make this event happen, and we're all so proud of another successful year," commented Mikaela Lewis, the Chamber’s project manager of Garlicfest. “Our team already has lots of ideas to make our silver anniversary year in 2020 extra ‘stinkin'’ special, and we hope to see all of our loyal fans back again to celebrate with us!”

This year’s festival, in its 24th year, was held at Camelot Village on Route 9 on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1 of Labor Day Weekend.

This farmers’ market-style festival is known worldwide for it’s cascading rows of 200 plus garlic vendors, kids activities, food trucks, beer & wine garden, and regional live bands.  It is considered to be one of the best garlic-themed festivals in the world by Reuters.

The chamber has also recently won a Top 10 Vermont Winter Event for their Wings and Winter Homebrew Festival in 2018.

Other Vermont Time-Honored Events include Stowe Winter Carnival in Stowe, Vermont Maple Festival in St. Albans, Strolling of the Heifers in Brattleboro, Burlington Discover Jazz Festival in Burlington, Vermont Quilt Festival in Essex Junction, Deerfield Valley Blueberry Festival in the Deerfield Valley, Vermont Festival of the Arts in Mad River Valley, New World Festival in Randolph, South End Art Hop in Burlington, and Tunbridge World’s Fair in Tunbridge.
