Vermont Business Magazine Ceres Natural Remedies opened for business in mid-December at 190 College Street in Burlington. The shop is located across the street from Sweetwaters American Bistro and The Archives and carries the largest selection of hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products in New England. The new Ceres Natural Remedies location replaces the smaller space it occupied in the Wing Building on Burlington’s waterfront from 2016-2017.
The Ceres Natural Remedies College Street store is the first in the downtown Church Street Marketplace district to offer primarily CBD products. CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-intoxicating compound extracted from the leaves and flowers of hemp plants, and has therapeutic potential for alleviating pain, stress and inflammation. Hemp products must contain less than 0.3% of the intoxicating compound THC and have been legal in Vermont since 2013.
The new Ceres Natural Remedies location features 2,200 square feet of retail space (more than four times the size of the space it previously occupied) and includes an expanded inventory of over 40 different brands. The store offers extracts, tinctures, body care products and more from local and national companies, plus locally-produced edibles like hemp-infused chocolate, honey & coconut oil. The College Street store carries Vermont’s largest selection of CBD-infused beverages including bottled water, soda, tea and kombucha. Pet owners will find CBD-infused treats and topicals for relieving pain, stress and inflammation in cats and dogs.
According to Chris Copley, who designed the shop and manages Ceres Natural Remedies business development, the prominent downtown location will raise awareness about herbal medicine and natural alternatives for relieving pain, stress and inflammation. Copley noted that “So far the response has been incredible. We put a lot of thought into each detail of the store, from the Barre granite slabs we got for our counters to the unique products on the shelves. Everyone that visits the shop gets really excited to see our world-class selection of CBD products, including so many Vermont brands. We hear amazing stories of how CBD has helped people living with health issues, and we have lots of resources to support them in learning how CBD might help with specific concerns.”
The Ceres Natural Remedies retail stores will be managed by Christian Connolly, who recently joined the company and previously worked as the National Sales Manager for Burton Snowboards. Connolly’s 12 years of sales and brand development expertise gained at Burton enhances the customer experience at Ceres.
Ceres Natural Remedies is Vermont’s premier source for hemp-derived CBD products and has operated stores in Brattleboro and Burlington since 2016. The company supports local farmers & businesses, and produces its own line of CBD products made from Vermont-grown hemp. The College Street store currently accepts payment by cash or check (an ATM is available) with plans to accept credit cards early in 2018. The store is open Monday - Saturday from 10am to 6pm, with new hours coming soon. Customers must be at least 18 years of age to purchase CBD products.
