Scott to proclaim Morgan Horse Day Saturday

Vermont Business Magazine In recognition of the importance of the Morgan Horse to the State of Vermont, and in conjunction with a nationwide Morgan horse promotional event, Vermont Governor Phil Scott has signed a proclamation stating that October 28th, 2017, will be the official Day of the Morgan in the State of Vermont. The UVM Morgan Horse Farm is dedicated to the preservation and improvement of the Morgan horse through breeding and selection. Designated as a site on the National Register of Historic Places, the farm is also home to significant Morgan history and a variety of educational programs.

For over 60 years, the farm has provided educational experiences and training for students and visitors while perpetuating the Battell, Government, and UVM bloodlines. UVM Morgans are prized as superb pleasure horses for recreational use and as foundation broodstock.

WHEN: Saturday, October 28th, at 1:00pm. (the farm is open from 9am-4pm, with tours throughout the day. See below for other special events)

WHERE: UVM Morgan Horse Farm, 74 Battell Drive, Weybridge, VT

WHO: On behalf of the governor, the Vermont secretary of Agriculture, Food & Markets, Anson Tebbetts, will present the governor’s proclamation on Saturday the 28th of October at the UVM Morgan Horse Farm. Secretary Tebbetts will be joined by the dean of the UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Thomas Vogelmann.

WHAT ELSE: The UVM Morgan Horse Farm will be offer free admission on this day, with tours running on the hour, (with the exception of 1 pm). Special showings of THE FIGHTING BREED, a half hour documentary about the Morgan horse and the CivilWar, will be at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.

Free cider, doughnuts, cheese, and crackers will be provided.
