The Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center (VT PTAC) in collaboration with the New Hampshire PTAC is hosting a free workshop on the HUBZone certification program in New Hampshire and Vermont. Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) certification gives qualified businesses a competitive edge when bidding on federal contracts as the program’s set-aside contracts limit competition to only HUBZone certified businesses. A Small Business Administration (SBA) specialist will be on-site to answer your questions and free one-on-one meetings with a PTAC counselor are available immediately following the presentation to begin work on your application.
“Nationally, the government struggles to meet the mandated 3% goal for contracting with HUBZone certified firms. This tells us the opportunity is there and the need is real. For Vermont and New Hampshire businesses, the window for eligibility may be significantly reduced by 2020 when the census updates, so this workshop is a great way to learn about the program and get involved”, said Joanne Spaulding, Director of VT PTAC.

About the Vermont Procurement Technical Assistance Center: VT PTAC provides Vermont businesses with an understanding of the requirements of government contracting to obtain and successfully perform federal, state, and local contracts through free counseling services, training, and networking opportunities. The center’s mission is to increase the percentage of federal contracts awarded to Vermont businesses with emphasis on contracts awarded to small businesses. VT PTAC is funded through a cooperative agreement with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the VT Department of Economic Development (DED). U.S. Sens. Patrick Leahy and Bernie Sanders, along with U.S. Rep. Peter Welch, have supported the PTAC program nationally, which brings Vermont more than $400,000 annually and matches a state investment.
VT PTAC is part of the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD). ACCD’s mission is to help Vermonters improve their quality of life and build strong communities. ACCD accomplishes this mission by providing grants, technical assistance, and advocacy through three divisions: The Department of Economic Development, the Department of Tourism and Marketing, and the Department of Housing and Community Development. For more information on ACCD please visit: accd.vermont.gov.
