Annual “Spring into Summer” Sportswear Fashion Benefits Cancer & Brain Injury Patients

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT – The fourth annual “Spring into Summer” Sportswear Fashion Show will take place Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at a new venue – the Sheraton Burlington Conference Center – and will support patients and families affected by cancer or a traumatic brain injury (TBI) by raising funds for the University of Vermont Cancer Center and Brain Injury Association of Vermont.
This year’s event theme is “Movement is Medicine” in celebration of local dance and athletic groups who will be both performing and wearing the summer season’s hottest sportswear, as well as guest speakers Karen Newman and Hannah Deene Wood – two well-respected Burlington, Vt.-area athletes and survivors. Karen is a nationally-ranked triathlete, cancer survivor and author, and Hannah, an avid skateboarder, snowboarder, Zumba instructor and owner/operator of Talent Skatepark, is a TBI survivor and mentor. Other event highlights include door prizes, a silent auction, free dance and yoga instruction and demonstrations, hors d’oeuvres and beverages, and a cash bar.  No one leaves empty handed!
Spring Collections from Athleta, Fleet Feet, Patagonia, and ski rack will be exhibited by dance groups, Orchesis Dancers of UVM & DSantos VT, and sports clubs - Rev, CrossFit and the track club Sprinticity

SIS VT is organized by Kirsten Wiley, a TBI survivor based in South Burlington, VT.  Trained in anatomy and physiology and a board certified massage therapist, Wiley learned about the benefits of massage, dance and exercise first hand as part of her rehabilitation and recovery following a serious accident that took place in 1997. Her mission is to help others find this medicine.
