Sunflower festival blooms in St. Albans Aug 2-4

-A A +A

The City and Town of St. Albans, the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Scott Magnan’s Farm, have joined forces to launch a new event: The St. Albans Sunflower Festival.

Held over the weekend of August 2-4, 2019, the festival’s shining stars will be the sunflowers – two large fields planted in the Industrial Park, and another field planted along the Georgia shoreline. There will be other viewing sites in the area and pop-up sunflower patches will be planted around the City and Town.
The Industrial Park field will be open from sunrise to sunset during the Festival weekend. Tours will be $3.00 per person (to help cover the cost of seeding). Live music is planned for both Friday and Saturday evenings; details will be announced at a later date.

The concept of a festival took root about a year ago, when Mr. Magnan planted one of his empty fields with sunflower seeds. Word of mouth and a few photos posted to the farm’s Facebook page helped spread the news about the giant field of blooms, and the appeal was viral. Visitors drove from all over the state to see the flowers, purchase blooms, and of course, take selfies. This year’s approach is a more organized effort, with ancillary sunflower-themed activities punctuating the weekend.

As the event is very much in the planning stages, a full schedule of activities will be announced at a later date.
