Vermont Business Magazine  Saint Michael’s Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Chuck Tobin has announced the June 20 opening of the Playhouse’s 70th summer theater season with the Tony® Award-winning Million Dollar Quartet, the high-voltage musical inspired by the true story of the famed recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time. Million Dollar Quartet, directed by Keith Andrews (The Playhouse’s Spamalot, Young Frankenstein, Drowsy Chaperone, Sister Act) brings you inside the Sun Records recording studio with these four iconic legends.

Performances begin on Tuesday, June 20. Performances are Tuesday – Saturday evenings June 20 – 24, 27 – July 1 (8pm), and Saturday matinees June 24 and July 1 (2pm).

On the night of December 4, 1956 Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins came together for an epic jam session at Sun Records Studio in Memphis. Based around that historical event, Million Dollar Quartet, by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, recounts how those four legends ended up in the same room at Sun Records in Memphis for one of the most memorable nights in music. It brings to light the extraordinary story of broken promises, secrets, and the once-in-a-lifetime celebration of four friends that is both poignant and heartwarming. Relive the era with the show’s incredible score of rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, R&B and country hits. Showcased hit songs include everything from “Blue Suede Shoes,” and “Walk the Line” to “Ghost Riders”,” “Sixteen Tons,” “Great Balls of Fire,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Fever,” “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,” “Hound Dog,” and more.
