In years past, it was difficult to welcome as many people as wanted to attend the Southwestern Vermont Health Care Foundation’s Summer Gala at the Hubbell Homestead in Bennington. There just wasn’t space.
“By transforming the annual event into a virtual experience, we are delighted that we can welcome as many people as would like to join,” said Leslie Keefe, SVHC’s vice president for Corporate Development.
The event is called the Spirit of the Summer Gala. It is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, July 17, and attendees must register by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 16. Attendees can visit summergala.org for details.
The response has been strong. More than 200 people are registered to attend.
“We have never done a virtual event before, so we had no idea what to expect,” Keefe said. “We are overjoyed with the participation so far and hope to welcome even more people into the SVHC family at this year’s historic event.”
The event includes many unique features.
· Virtual attendees will receive a list of local restaurants from which to order take-out meals in advance. All of the restaurants have agreed to donate a percentage of their sales on the evening of the event to the health system. Attendees will also receive a recipe for the event’s signature cocktail, specially created for the Spirit of the Summer Gala by Miller’s Toll in Bennington. Those who donate $200 or more will receive a commemorative gift as well.
· At 5:30 p.m. on the night of the event, attendees will receive an e-mail, including their event link, which will launch a video. They will hear from SVHC’s clinical leaders, enjoy a performance by world-class vocalist Maxine Linehan—including an original debut song inspired by SVHC's healthcare workers and COVID responders worldwide—and watch as raffle prizes are announced. After the video, guests can tune into the WEQX Spirit of the Summer Gala playlist, available via web link in the July 17th e-mail, and dance the evening away.
All proceeds of the event will benefit SVHC’s efforts toward continued readiness for and recovery from COVID-19.
This event would not be possible without Title Sponsors Mack Molding and the Richard and Pamela Ader Foundation; Presenting Sponsors The Bank of Bennington, Inn at Manchester, John and Deborah Larkin and The Rowley Agency; Lead Sponsors MSK Engineering and Design, Radiology Associates of Bennington, Roby Harrington III, and Trane; Supporting Sponsors At Home Senior Care, BKD CPAs and Advisors, CIGNA, Jon and Laurie Cohen, Hayden Plumbing and Heating, rk MILES, Shaftsbury Insurance Agency, and VNA Hospice of the Southwest Region; Host Sponsors Cooley Group, Four Chimneys Inn, Michael and Susan McKenna, Dr. and Mrs. Scott Rogge, and Shaw’s of Manchester; and Media Sponsors CAT-TV and WEQX.
“We are humbled by the extraordinary support we have seen from our local business owners and community members,” Keefe said. “We look forward to getting together virtually and to making the best of this unusual time in our history.”
