Fairlee — The Upper Valley Trails Alliance (UVTA) has set its annual Skate-a-thon fundraiser on the Make Morey Skating Trail for Jan. 20th at the Lake Morey Resort from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The day revolves around skating laps on the Lake Morey Skating Trail, the longest groomed trail of its kind in the country. The entry fee, which ranges between $10 and $25 depending on age and UVTA membership status, comes with free Nordic skate rentals (on a first-come, first-served basis), hot chocolate, soup, lunch and a raffle ticket. Skaters get an additional raffle ticket for each lap they complete. All proceeds from the day will go toward the UVTA’s work to develop and maintain trails and programs around the region.
Since 2003, the Trails Alliance has celebrated the wonders of winter and wild skating with the Skate-a-thon. Russell Hirschler, UVTA’s Executive Director, said “Celebrate, don’t hibernate is one of our sayings. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate winter than skating on the longest groomed skating trail in the United States!”
Tickets are available online at www.uvtrails.org. They may also be purchased on the day by cash, check or credit card.
Thanks to the Lake Morey Resort for providing the maintenance of the skating trail, Nordic Skater for providing Nordic Skate rentals, and Boloco for providing lunch at the event.
