Magic Announces new "Road to Ruin" Extreme Competition Feb 2

-A A +A

Londonderry, VT--Get ready to take a road trip for Magic’s newest event in its trilogy of non-sanctioned extreme ski/ride competitions that started with TUCK IT on Dec 31st and ends with Master of the Mountain on March 2nd.  It’s the series debut on February 2nd of the “Road to Ruin”.

Presented by Two Roads Brewery, “Road to Ruin” is a throwback to the classic 80’s ski movie Hot Dog: The Movie, with a flat-out race top-to-bottom on double-back diamonds (no gates and on trails that will be open only to the competitors during the event). But like Hot Dog, here’s the twist on this steeply-pitched road, it will be a “mass-start” and finish. Nothing fancy, just first across the finish line wins. There are no style points. There will be several race “heats” of groups first (by age and gender), with the winners of each heat going on to a final championship downhill run to determine who takes home the $1,000 top prize along with 2nd ($350) and 3rd ($150), plus great prizes from sponsors Bern Helmets and Suburban Ski & Bike.

Here’s the road map: First, there will be multiple heats with 8-10 competitors for each heat grouped by age and gender; all heat competitors will start at the same time and will race each other down Witch, then taking a right turn down Black Line where the finish line will be set up when Black Line intersects with Hocus Pocus; the first to cross the finish is the winner of that heat and each heat winner heads to the finals; the final championship run resumes back up at the start line on Witch where there will be another mass-start of all heat winners (8-10 heat winners); the top 3 finishers of the final run win their portion of the $1,500 cash purse for Road to Ruin; the winners of each heat also receive medals and prizes.

“It’s a steep and windy road to victory at the new ‘Road to Ruin” said Geoff Hatheway President of Magic, “But it will be exciting to participate in as well as fun to watch. The competition will also be simulcast in our Black Line Tavern and on Youtube globally.”

Road to Ruin is open to 100 entries with a minimum age of 10 years old.
Online registration (go here to register) ends February 1 at 5 pm. Entry fee is $40 and a discounted lift ticket of $40 will need to be purchased.  Day of registration on February 2nd will be allowed if there is room at a $50 entry fee, but must be signed-up by 10am. A Road to Ruin t-shirt is included for each competitor.  Registration/bib pick up is from 9am to 11 am at Magic’s ticket office.
The event is sponsored by Two Roads Brewery, Bern Unlimited and Suburban Ski & Bike.
