From the day after Thanksgiving through January 6, Shelburne Museum lights its campus aglow in a spectacular visual display of lighting accompanied throughout by musical selections. Shelburne Museum’s iconic landmarks including the 220-foot steamboat Ticonderoga and its companion 1871 Lighthouse as well as the magical Beach Woods and beautiful Bostwick Garden are all festooned with thousands of lights that make for a breathtaking walking tour of the museum campus in the evening hours.

Vermont Business Magazine "Brewing up adventure," isn't just a motto for Whetstone Beer Co., it's a way of life. Partners David Hiler, Tim and Amy Brady were brought together by their love of beer and adventure. Their years exploring the beauty of Vermont State Parks has led them to launch Pints for Parks, a partnership benefiting Vermont State Parks. Pints for Parks is a collaboration between Whetstone and Vermont State Parks, where twice per year Whetstone creates a unique, limited-edition beer celebrating a different state park. Like all of Whetstone Beer's cans, this special release incorporates a collectible sticker in the label. Proceeds from all Pints for Parks beers will support Vermont Parks Forever, Vermont State Parks' supporting foundation. For the Fall 2023 edition of this beer, they're partnering with the Vermont Maple Farmers Collective in the creation of our Quechee Gorge Maple Amber Ale.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Delegation this week announced the advancement of the Nulhegan River and Paul Stream Wild and Scenic River Study Act, which passed out of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources (ENR) with bipartisan support. This bill takes an important step in protecting the ecological, recreational, and economic value of these Northern Vermont waterways. It was the first bill introduced as a full delegation this Congress.

Agency of Commerce and Community Development Effective September 21, 2023, there is a new Business Emergency Gap Assistance Program (BEGAP) Award Calculation formula to help get more funds to organizations working to reopen their doors. These changes are retroactive. The award amount is still based on total net uncovered physical damages, the amount remaining after subtracting insurance proceeds, other grants, and/or donations. But for organizations that suffered less than $1,000,000 in net uncovered damages, the formula now eliminates the $20,000 award cap.  For organizations that suffered $1,000,000 or more in net uncovered damages, the formula no longer takes into account the number of Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Vermont-based employees.

by Timothy McQuiston, Vermont Business Magazine David G Bergh, EdD will take the helm of Vermont State University (VTSU) as the next interim president following the planned departure of current chief executive Michael K Smith. The Board of Trustees of the Vermont State Colleges System announced Dr Bergh’s appointment today, following a special meeting. Dr Bergh will lead Vermont State University as interim president, building on the transformative work done by his predecessors to unify Vermont State University and increase the availability of affordable, accessible, high-quality, and relevant public higher education across Vermont. Dr Bergh brings over 25 years of higher education experience to this role, including nearly 20 years of experience from within the Vermont State Colleges System.

Vermont Business Magazine The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded GlobalFoundries (Nasdaq: GFS) a new 10-year contract for a supply of securely manufactured, US-made semiconductors for use across a wide range of critical aerospace and defense applications. GF has a major chip plant in Essex Junction, Vermont. With an initial award of $17.3 million this month and an overall 10-year spending ceiling of $3.1 billion, the new contract provides the DoD and its contractors with access to GF’s semiconductor technologies manufactured at its U.S. facilities.

Vermont Business Magazine The Agency of Natural Resources is announcing its tenth State and Local Government Municipal Day. The day-long event is hosted by the Agency of Natural Resources in partnership with the Agency of Agriculture, Agency of Transportation, Vermont Emergency Management, Vermont Center for Geographic Information, and the Natural Resource Board, and is dedicated to the education of municipal officials on a variety of state programs and resources. Municipal Day will take place on October 20, 2023, at National Life from 7:30am-3:45pm.
