Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott and the Vermont Department of Labor announced the recipients of the 2021 Vermont Internship Program today, awarding a total of $462,500 to 20 organizations throughout Vermont. The Department of Labor promotes internships by providing grants to organizations that support or connect Vermont employers with student-interns from regional technical centers or postsecondary educational institutions.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Agency of Transportation today announced more than $1.5 million in awards for the 2022 Vermont Better Roads Program to support municipal road projects that improve water quality and result in maintenance cost savings. The grant funds, totaling $1,516,800, are provided by AOT in partnership with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and are sourced from federal and state transportation funds and the State’s Clean Water Fund. The Vermont Better Roads Program promotes the use of erosion control and maintenance techniques that save money while protecting and enhancing water quality around the state.

The District is working with the Center for Innovative Education (C!E) to support the development of a strategic plan that is co-created with BSD stakeholders. The Vermont Department of Labor is aware of fraudulent communications sent by text and email that state: ‘We noticed an error with your Unemployment Claim,’ and prompt the recipient to ‘Review your Claim’. Links in these fraudulent communications lead to a fraudulent website that appears similar the Online Claimant Portal.

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont’s progress toward the 80% vaccination goal can now be found at Vermont.gov/Vermont-forward. Governor Phil Scott announced last week that COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted once 80% of the eligible population has received at least one dose of vaccine. Based on CDC data, Vermont stands at 77.2 percent. The VDH is reporting today 26 new cases of COVID-19 and no deaths, which are holding at 255 for more than a week.

Vermont Business Magazine Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) on Wednesday announced that the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act, which today passed out of the Environment and Public Works Committee, will include nearly $1.4 billion for Vermont’s roads, bridges, and transit systems. The bill, which authorizes federal spending on transportation for the next five years, increases funding for Vermont by 21% in year one and by 31% over the life of the bill. Vermont will receive additional funding from a provision ensuring all states obtain some competitive grant dollars from the Bridge Investment Program.
