Vermont Business Magazine Governor Phil Scott announced action on the following bills, passed by the General Assembly. For H.930, Scott issued the following statement: Improving the quality of education has been a priority of my administration. Since the pandemic, we’ve seen chronic absenteeism increase, which is problematic because we know when kids aren’t in school, they aren’t learning. I appreciate the collaborative work across agencies and departments on this bill, which will help us reverse the chronic absenteeism trend we’re seeing in Vermont.

Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Bar Foundation (VBF) has announced its Fiscal Year 2027 grant awards, representing the Foundation’s largest annual investment yet in organizations advancing access to justice, legal services, and community support across Vermont. This year, the Foundation increased its grantmaking by more than $200,000 from the previous fiscal year, marking the second consecutive year of expanded giving as organizations statewide face rising demand for services, increasing operational pressures, and growing legal needs within their communities.

Vermont Business Magazine Green Mountain Power (GMP) is reminding customers they are invited to drop by GMP’s Open House on Tuesday, June 9, from 5:30-6:30 pm at GMP’s service center in Bethel. Refreshments will be served. As part of GMP’s Multi-Year Regulation Plan, GMP holds two customer Open House gatherings per year, each in a different part of the state.

Vermont Business Magazine At a state-of-the-art biomedical research center at the University of Vermont, a cadre of early-career scientists is uncovering the complexities of the heart-brain connection. The researchers —experts in medicine, epidemiology, chemistry, pharmacology, molecular physiology, biophysics, rehabilitation and movement science, and more — will share their diverse projects and findings at a public symposium on June 11-12 at UVM’s Davis Center. A recently renewed $12 million, five-year National Institutes of Health Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) grant supports the work, which spans a wide-range of heart- and brain-health issues, including impacts of cardiovascular disease on brain motor function, brain blood flow, and cognitive decline. The grant is administered through the Vermont Center for Cardiovascular and Brain Health

Vermont Business Magazine Campaign for Vermont Prosperity (CFV) today released the results of a sweeping public safety poll of 512 likely Chittenden County voters. The survey sheds light on how Vermonters from across the political spectrum feel about the state of public safety in their communities. The findings reveal a county that feels markedly less safe and is demanding stronger accountability from its leaders.

Agency of Agriculture, Food & Markets Offered by the Northeast Dairy Business Innovation Center, this grant helps fund equipment for dairy processing and packaging to modernize production. Projects should boost processing capacity for local milk, strengthen business viability, and/or meet consumer demand for regional dairy products. Projects can focus on improving product quality, increasing production, enhancing efficiency, upgrading existing products or launching new ones. Having technical assistance from a service provider or business planner will strengthen your application.

Vermont Business Magazine Average gasoline prices in Vermont are $4.36/g, down 9.7 cents per gallon from last week's $4.46/g. The lowest price in the state yesterday was $3.82/g while the highest was $4.59/g, a difference of 77.0 cents per gallon. The national average price of gasoline has fallen 17.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.09/g today.

Vermont Business Magazine The Attorney General’s Office announced that Robert Martineit, 44, of East Montpelier, Vermont, was arraigned Friday on one felony count of Lewd and Lascivious Conduct, one misdemeanor count of Enabling the Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor and one misdemeanor count of Enabling the Consumption of Cannabis. The charges brought against Mr. Martineit were the result of an investigation conducted by members of the Middlebury Police Department. Mr. Martineit pleaded not guilty at the arraignment in Vermont Superior Court, Addison Criminal Division.

Vermont Business Magazine The Community College of Vermont (CCV) held its graduation ceremony today at Norwich University’s Shapiro Field House. Roughly 500 students received associate degrees. Graduates represent all 14 Vermont counties, and hail from 11 states and 13 countries. The youngest graduates are 18 and the oldest is 79. Also among the graduates are 16 veterans and members of the Armed Forces. More than 60% of the Class of 2026 are the first in their family to earn a college degree. The keynote address was delivered by Will Eberle, founder of Mission Driver Consulting and executive director of Alyssum, a peer-based mental health respite program. Eberle, whose own higher education journey began at CCV, is a human services leader who has dedicated his career to uplifting Vermont’s most vulnerable citizens.

SFN Mentor Fathers make themselves available to mentor younger fathers who are closer to the beginning of their special needs parenting journey. The SF Network will meet June 14 from 5 PM to 6:30 PM at St. John Vianney Church in South Burlington.
