A Long History of Textile Innovation

Mark Baker has been a national leader in textile creativity going back forty years to 1976. Mark was one of the first individuals to promote T-shirts as a legitimate form of advertising. Mark has put together successful textile ad campaigns for such companies as Coca-Cola™ and Burger King™. He was also the official textile promoter for the America’s Cup in Newport, Rhode Island in 1980 and 1983.

Mark's specialization was raising funds for nonprofits through his unique ability to bring organizations together to benefit all. Mark put together the Boston Celtics and various media groups throughout New England, for the benefit of Muscular Dystrophy; over $53,000 was raised with a great T-shirt campaign.

Mark met his wife, Linda, through another fundraiser, one for Multiple Sclerosis. Linda was a district manager. Together, they formed their textile ad company called Ad Art America. Ad Art America has been serving Vermont for 30 years with exceptional screen printing and embroidery.

Vermont Flannel™, The Idea, The Brand

Mark and Linda, with their company, Ad Art America, specialized in creative designs and products for the ski industry and other Vermont and New England companies. Mark was always trying to come up with something new and exciting.

One cold morning an idea struck. “What about a flannel T-shirt?” Mark thought. “Nobody has ever done that.” Then, another bolt of lightning hit. “What about flannel lounge pants and flannel sportswear? Nobody has ever done that!” Then, the epiphany moment...“FLANNEL EVERYTHING! Vermont Flannel.” The Vermont Flannel brand was born! Vermont and flannel go together like bread and butter. What a great idea, what a great brand name!

Quality, Quality, Quality

Mark and Linda have always taken great pride in maintaining “the best quality flannel products in the world,” and, they’re not kidding. “We want our brand name to represent the very best flannel products on the planet.” And, they have maintained that quality for the past 24 years, manufacturing most of their clothing in East Barre, Vermont.  2016 marks the 25th Anniversary of The Vermont Flannel Company, a business which has grown by leaps and bounds, and still feels like a great start up company.

Made in the USA™ “Hall of Fame” Winner

Vermont Flannel has received national and international recognition as a company. While the vast majority of textile companies have left American shores, Vermont Flannel™ has stayed right here in America. They have been recognized as a “Made in USA Hall of Fame” winner… offering “Hall of Fame Flannel Clothing.” The company received the award for its dedication and commitment to manufacturing its apparel in the United States. Mark was, obviously, very honored to receive this award and remains committed to manufacturing his clothing in the United States of America.

The Vermont Flannel Company has manufacturing facilities in East Barre, Johnson and Ferrisburgh, Vermont, and is also looking to expand, to meet ever growing demand.
