If you visit the Renewable NRG Systems website, you may notice a very large number on the homepage: 2,000,000,000,000 (and counting). This number reflects the total kilowatt-hours of renewable energy that the company’s products have helped generate since 1982. From humble beginnings in Vermont, the business has grown into a global company with a sense of community still strongly rooted in Hinesburg.
Renewable Energy: Then and Now
Thirty years ago, when the wind industry was just starting to develop, RNRG found its niche in manufacturing measurement instrumentation for wind farm developers. The company invented core products—sensors, towers, and data loggers—that provide bankable data for determining the best site for a commercial wind farm. RNRG expanded from a garage in Bristol, Vermont, to a building on Commerce Avenue and, 10 years ago, to the current headquarters on Riggs Road in Hinesburg.
Fast forward through rapid growth and dramatic market shifts to the company RNRG is today: a resolute organization with an ambitious strategic plan for growth, an open door to fresh ideas, and renewed enthusiasm for the future. The business now serves multiple stages of wind and solar energy project development—from site assessment to commercial operation. RNRG products are sold to electric utilities, turbine OEMs, project developers, research institutes, and government agencies in more than 150 countries.
What distinguishes RNRG from other companies is a dedication to and passion for renewable energy. Employees come to work every day because they enjoy the people they work with, the work they do has meaning, and they want to make a difference in the world.
Innovating in a Competitive Industry
The renewable energy industry demands nimbleness, innovation, and creativity. With new markets emerging every day, RNRG’s charge is to position the company’s products and services where the greatest potential exists. With strong sales representation in Europe, India, China, and Latin America, RNRG serves existing and new customers with local, knowledgeable resources. In addition, service centers in Vermont, China, and Europe ensure outstanding after-sales support.
Listening to customers is a key priority for the business. Learning about industry challenges and helping to create solutions enables RNRG to put energy into the right product design and development. Blending that with well-articulated market messages, in turn, generates new sales opportunities. Closing the loop, the company’s technical services team stands ready to assist customers’ needs.
RNRG is also serious about engaging employees. Programs such as Voice of the Employee and the new Innovation Challenge encourage team members to stand up and be heard, no matter where they work in the organization.
Life at RNRG
RNRG employees come from different backgrounds, geographies, experiences, and perspectives. Some are multi-generational Vermonters; others have relocated only recently. Bringing fresh perspectives and energy is key to the company’s future.
Because the renewable energy industry is in a constant state of change, opportunities frequently arise for career development at RNRG. This can mean a new position in the company, an opportunity to work on a new project or team, or the drive to learn a new skill.
Work-life balance and community involvement are also highly valued. At the company’s LEED Gold headquarters in Hinesburg, employees can use the fully equipped fitness room and lap pool at any time. In addition, with the help of the NRGize Wellness Committee, RNRG sponsors teams for the annual Corporate Cup 5K Race and the Lake Champlain Penguin Plunge. The United Way fundraising campaign is also an annual tradition.
Growing the RNRG Team
Business growth means new career opportunities. In 2015, RNRG added ten new positions to the team, and the company is currently recruiting for positions in engineering, logistics, and sales. If you’re interested in learning more about RNRG, visit
