John Davis, a Certified Public Accountant and resident of South Burlington, has been tapped by Gov. Peter Shumlin as the newest member of the Vermont Economic Progress Council. The Council is an 11 member board that authorizes job creation incentives and oversees the Tax Increment Financing District program and the Windham County Economic Development Program. Davis fills the remainder of a term vacated by the retirement of Nancy Port from the panel.
Davis is managing partner and founder of Davis & Hodgdon Associates, CPA’s, PLC, located at 33 Blair Park Road, Suite 201, in Williston. The firm provides litigation support services, business valuations, and tax planning, research and preparation for corporations, partnerships, and individuals, and financial, operational, and economic consulting for small to medium sized businesses.
“John brings unique strengths and extensive business and tax planning experience to the VEPC Board and has served his community in many capacities,” Shumlin said. “I am very pleased to appoint him to this important position.”
In addition to being a CPA in Vermont since 1981, Davis is a Certified Valuation Analyst and Certified Financial Planner. Prior to founding Davis & Hodgdon, he worked for A.M. Peisch & Company and Urbach, Kahn, & Werlin. He is a past president of the Rotary Club of South Burlington and a past chair of the Workforce Investment Board of Chittenden County. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee for the Community College of Vermont and the South Burlington Affordable Housing Committee. Davis is a graduate of UVM.

The Vermont Economic Progress Council is an independent board appointed by the Governor and the General Assembly to consider applications to the state’s economic incentive programs. The Council is attached to the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, whose mission is to help Vermonters improve their quality of life and build strong communities.
