The Brattleboro Retreat is pleased to announce the appointment of Meghan Baston, MSN, RN, as the hospital’s new Chief Nursing Officer. She began her duties on Monday, September 25th. Baston comes to the Retreat from Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, where she had served as the Director of Behavioral Health Services and earlier as a clinical nurse manager.

In addition to providing direct care, Baston's nursing background includes experience with program/staff management, strategic planning, the development and implementation of clinical processes, staff education, regulatory oversight, workforce retention, and cultural transformation within the workplace.

“I’m excited to be part of a mission that focuses exclusively on treating people who suffer from mental illness and addiction,” said Baston. “Supporting and guiding Retreat nurses through challenging times in the field of mental health will be a top priority, as will listening and learning from a team of nursing professionals that knows how to adapt to change while maintaining high standards of care.”

From 2012 to 2013, Baston worked for Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Hospital in Greenfield, NH, as a nurse manager. From 2007 to 2012 she worked at the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord, NH, as a radiologic technologist/nurse where she oversaw budgeting and daily operations of the radiology department.

“Meghan has the skills, energy, and vision that I believe will allow the Retreat’s nursing staff reach new heights in both clinical excellence and overall job satisfaction,” said Louis Josephson, president and chief executive officer. “Her combination of strength and caring make her an excellent choice for this important leadership position.”

Baston holds two degrees from the University of Phoenix: a Bachelor of Science in Management and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a focus on Leadership and Management.  She also holds an Associate of Science degree in Nursing from Manchester College, and an Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Technology from New Hampshire Technical Institute.
