Lund Family Center Welcomes New Development Staff and Interns

Alex Brady took a full time position with Lund Family Center as their Event and Volunteer coordinator in March 2011. Alex interned during his Senior Spring semester while studying at the University of Vermont. He graduated from the UVM School of Business in 2010. “I was ecstatic when Lund hired me full time,” says Alex “I am really passionate about their mission to strengthen children and families and know that I will get a lot of good work experience that will help me for the rest of my life.” Alex jumped right into work as he helped put the finishing touches for the Eve of Fools, a friend raising event on the eve of April 1st. This event was successful in engaging many new friends to the Lund Family Center. Alex than began planning logistics for the 3rd Annual Mother’s Day Bike Ride on May 8th which helped raise more than $100,000 for Lund. Alex then focused attention on the organization’s June 12th Mad Hatter’s Tea & Bubbly, which welcomed 300 guests and netted more than $30,000 for Lund’s programs that strengthen children and families. Alex is originally from Atlanta, GA. At the University of Vermont he was very involved in Community Action Board, an on campus group who promoted activities and involvement in the dormitories and also played on the Ultimate Frisbee team.
Gabrielle Heath joined Lund Family Center this June as an intern in the Development office. She is entering her junior year at Penn State University in the fall, with a major in Marketing and a minor in International Business. Gabrielle supports corporate fundraising, grant research, and special event management including the execution of the Agency’s 2011 Mad Hatter Event. At Penn State, Gabrielle is involved in a professional co-ed business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi. Throughout the year, members plan and participate in several social, philanthropic, and professional events, and have the opportunity to hold a wide variety of positions within the fraternity. Gabrielle is originally from Richmond, Vermont where she graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School in 2009.
Lauren Sleeper returned to Lund Family Center this summer after a successful and engaging mid-winter internship working in the Development Office. After interning at Lund Family Center and Make-A-Wish Foundation, Lauren has developed a strong passion and dedication to making positive, constructive changes in children's lives. Lauren supports corporate fundraising, database management, grant research, and special event management including implementation plans for the Agency's 2011 Mother's Day Bike Ride and Mad Hatter's Tea & Bubbly Event. Lauren is from Richmond, Vermont and graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School in 2009. She is a junior at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts majoring in Communications with a concentration in Advertising & Public Relations and a minor in English. Lauren is involved in several leadership positions at Endicott College. She is a member of Endicott Shipmates, a group of students who are representatives for the Admission Office at College-wide events and Friendship Club, an organization committed to creating friendships between college students and persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Kristin Heller joined Lund Family Center as a summer Development intern. Kristin is interested in the nonprofit sector and brings to Lund both business skills learned through her major and a passion for working with children and families. Kristin supported the Development team preparing for the Mad Hatter’s Tea and Bubbly event in June, and is now starting to focus on grant research and database management. Kristin is originally from Needham, Massachusetts and will be a senior at the University of Vermont in the fall. She is majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Recreation Management. Kristin is in the Honors College and is currently working on her thesis, researching how corporate social responsibility within an organization affects recruitment. At the University of Vermont Kristin is actively involved with the Outing Club. She is a rock climbing trip leader and this fall will be training other rock climbing leaders. Kristin is a leader for the TREK program that introduces new students to the wilderness of Vermont and upstate New York. She is also a member of the Golden Key and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies.
Jessica Bullock joined Lund Family Center as an intern in the Development Office this summer. Jessica is interested in a career in human services with a focus on women’s health. Currently, Jessica is writing a feature article profiling Lund’s Executive Director for multiple media and participating in Lund’s pregnancy prevention and awareness initiative. Jessica is originally from Shrewsbury, Vermont and will be a senior at the University of Vermont in the fall. Jessica is an English major with minors in Women’s and Gender Studies and in Political Science. As an Honors College student, Jessica is writing her thesis on racialized language in Toni Morrison’s recent novels, Paradise and A Mercy. Jessica is a Green and Gold Scholar, a member if Triota, and the President of UVM’s Tower Society. Jessica spends her free time debating and coaching for UVM’s Lawrence Debate Union. As LDU President, Jessica has taught debating seminars, traveled extensively, and founded UVM’s Spanish Language Debate Team. This fall, Jessica will be assistant teaching for a Speech and Debate course through UVM. Jessica has explored her interest in women’s health and social services though volunteer work at the Rutland County Battered Women’s Shelter, the Hicks foundation, and an internship at UVM’s Sexual Health Research Clinic. Jessica is looking forward to her time at Lund and the learning experiences LFC has to offer.
With 121 years of experience strengthening children and families, Lund Family Center annually serves more than 5,000 children and family members across Vermont and beyond. Lund’s work focuses on three goals: strengthening families, reducing child abuse and neglect, and helping to create new families through adoption. Its mission is to help children thrive by serving families with children, pregnant or parenting teens and young adults, and adoptive families.
