Colonel Matthew T Birmingham, Director of the Vermont State Police, is pleased to announce the following promotion: Effective October 29, 2017, Sergeant Robert Lucas, Patrol Commander in Williston, was promoted to Lieutenant, Station Commander at the Williston Field Station. Lieutenant Lucas has served the people of Vermont for more than 15 years, graduating from the Vermont Police Academy in early 2002. He began his career as a trooper at the Middlesex Barracks and in 2010 he was promoted to Sergeant in the Office of Technology Management at Headquarters. In 2013 he was transferred to Sergeant, Patrol Commander at the Williston barracks. Along with these duties, Lieutenant Lucas has long served on the Vermont State Police Bomb Squad as a Bomb Technician and as a Bomb Detection Canine handler.
A Vermont State Police Field Station Commander is responsible for overseeing delivery of law enforcement services to the communities served by that station. The field station commander is the local representative of the Vermont State Police to the community it serves, and works with local officials and citizens to address public safety and law enforcement concerns in their service area.
The Williston station provides police coverage throughout Chittenden and Lamoille Counties. Primary law enforcement services are provided for the towns of Bolton, Buel’s Gore, Charlotte, Huntington, Jericho, St George, and Westford in Chittenden County. The station also provides assistance as requested to local police departments to include Burlington, South Burlington, Colchester, Williston, Winooski, Essex, Shelburne, Hinesburg, Richmond, Milton, and the Chittenden County Sheriff’s Department. Williston Station troopers patrol 40 miles of interstates within Chittenden County. The Williston Station commander oversees an outpost office in Cambridge which is responsible for police coverage in the towns of Belvidere, Cambridge, Eden, Elmore and Waterville in Lamoille County.
