Dr Emmanuel Chiappinelli earns Deogracias P. Esguerra, MD Service Award

Dr. Chip Chiappinelli, a pediatrician with Mousetrap Pediatrics, was honored with the fourth annual Deogracias “Deo” P. Esguerra, MD Service Award at Northwestern Medical Center’s Medical Staff Appreciation Dinner held November 21, 2014.

The award was created in 2011 to honor a provider with a “passion for excellence and dedication to the patients of our community.” Its namesake, Dr. Esguerra, was known as a caring, passionate and inspirational physician who loved both the science and art of medicine.

Jill Berry Bowen, NMC’s Chief Executive Officer, called Dr. Chiappinelli a fitting addition to the group of esteemed honorees who earned the award in years past, a list that includes Dr. Fred Holmes, Dr. Frank Zsoldos, and Dr. Mike Corrigan.

Dr. Holmes said this of his Mousetrap Pediatrics partner: “He is a hard-working, dedicated physician who would walk across coals for any of the patients he serves. In this day and age to work with the same physician for over 30 years and never have anything in our relationship other than absolute trust for each other and the care of our patients, is absolutely amazing.”

In presenting the award, NMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Lowrey Sullivan outlined an impressive list of accomplishments for Dr. Chiappinelli, including his earning the Citizen of the Year award with Mousetrap Pediatrics from the Chamber of Commerce, earning Citizen of the Year by local Boy Scouts of America, earning a Dean’s Award for excellence in teaching Primary Care from the UVM College of Medicine, earning the Tim Bovat Memorial Award for Community Involvement, and many more.

Dr. Chiappinelli was lauded for his devoted care to his patients, and for his dedication to teenagers in the community. He is active in his church, is a sugar-maker and shares his full and active life with his wife, his four children and his five grandchildren.

“Dr. Chip,” as he is affectionately known, was joined by his entire family at the award ceremony which took place at the Bliss Auditorium in the St. Albans Historical Museum. Bowen and Dr. Sullivan were joined in presenting the award to Dr. Chiappinelli by NMC’s Board President, John Hango, and previous recipients Dr. Frank Zsoldos and Dr. Fred Holmes.

In addition to the presentation of the Deogracias “Deo” P. Esguerra, MD Service Award, NMC’s Annual Medical Staff Appreciation Dinner featured the introduction of new providers, celebrated accomplishments and highlights from the year, and recognized physicians and advance practice clinicians who have achieved milestones in length of service during the year.

“Our Medical Staff is so important to our patients, our hospital, and our community,” said Bowen. “It is wonderful to be able to come together with them and say thank you for all they do. They are truly appreciated.”
