Interstate 89 closed in Highgate due to reported plane crash

Vermont State Troopers from the St Albans barracks are responding to a reported crash of a small airplane on Interstate 89, north in Highgate around noon today. Northbound traffic is being closed at Exit 21 in Swanton, extending to the Canadian border. Motorists will need to find alternate routes.

At this point, no other information is available. Updates will be provided when possible.

Vermont unemployment rate falls three-tenths to 3.4 percent

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont’s unemployment rate is now second lowest in the nation, behind only North Dakota (2.6 percent). Driven by an increase in jobs, a decrease in the labor force and a steep decline in the number of unemployed, Vermont's unemployment rate fell again in March to 3.4 percent, a level not seen since well before the the national economy collapsed in 2008. This is the lowest Vermont seasonally adjusted unemployment rate since June 2005. The March rate represents a decrease of three-tenths of a percent from the February rate of 3.7 percent.

IBM likely candidate for $4.5 million state incentive

by Hilary Niles When Governor Peter Shumlin on Monday announced a new scheme to induce a company in dire circumstances to stay in Vermont, he left little doubt that IBM would be a prime and likely candidate for the plan. He acknowledged as much Wednesday.

“I have read the same information that you have in the press about IBM,” Shumlin responded after a press conference.
