City Market donates $30,000 to support the Vermont food system

Vermont Business Magazine City Market has announced the 2017 recipients of its Co-op Patronage Seedling Grants, a grants program to support the local food system. In 2016, the Co-op Patronage Seedling Grant recipients received over $56,000 in grant funding to local food projects at this year’s Grant Celebration held in March. City Market sent over $656,000 in Patronage Refunds to 11,450 Members in November 2016.

Vermont Business Magazine NG Advantage LLC, based in Colchester and majority-owned by Clean Energy Fuels (NASDAQ:CLNE), has announced that William Hill has joined the company as Chief Financial Officer, continuing nearly 30 years of senior financial management to companies throughout Vermont, from banking and manufacturing to outdoor equipment and craft beer. He previously was with the former Eastern Bancorp (Vermont Federal Bank) in Williston, Otter Creek Brewing in Middlebury and Ibex Outdoor Clothing in White River Jct.

Burlington nears completion of first Sustainable Infrastructure Plan project

TRORC adopts new Regional Plan

Vermont Business Magazine TRORC recently adopted a new Regional Plan and has also received approval from the Department of Public Service on its Energy Implementation Plan. On July 26, 2017, the Woodstock-based Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission Board unanimously adopted  a new Regional Plan.

UCS Head Start in Bennington celebrates $1.2 million grant

Vermont Business Magazine This past spring UCS was awarded a $1.2 million grant in order to expand education and child care services to children in Bennington County. The grant allowed for the addition of an Early Head Start Program. Head Start and Early Head Start of Bennington County provide high quality care for working families. In celebration, Head Start/ Early Head Start of Bennington County hosted an open house at their new facility located at 59 River Road in North Bennington, VT on October 11.

CFA Institute Research Challenge kicks off

Vermont Business Magazine CFA Society Vermont, kicked off its second local CFA Institute Research Challenge for students in Vermont universities and colleges. In the competition, the student teams analyze a public company, are mentored by finance industry professionals, write an equity research report on the assigned company, and present their report to a panel of industry experts and leaders.

Community Bank donates $1,000 to Green Mountain Animal Defenders

Vermont Business Magazine Community Bank NA recently presented Burliington's Green Mountain Animal Defenders with a $1,000 donation to sponsor the organization’s annual Walk for All Animals. All funds raised from the walk will help rescue, protect and provide direct services to pets, wildlife, farm animals and animals of all types in the Burlington region. Green Mountain Animal Defenders is Vermont’s oldest and largest volunteer-run animal protection organization. UVM Chair Daigle pledges $1 million for new multi-purpose arena

Vermont Business Magazine David Daigle ‘89, the chairman of the University of Vermont’s Board of Trustees, and his wife Beth Daigle ’89 have pledged $1 million to UVM’s proposed Multi-Purpose Center project. Their gift will be directed toward new facilities that will enhance student health and wellness on campus, as well as programs that encourage all UVM students to lead healthier lives.

FirstLight completes acquisition of 186 Communications

Vermont Business Magazine FirstLight, a leading fiber-optic bandwidth infrastructure services provider operating in the Northeast, announced today that it has completed its acquisition of 186 Communications, based in Nashua, NH.  This latest acquisition marks the Company’s fourth successful acquisition in the past year.  FirstLight previously completed the acquisitions of Oxford Networks, Sovernet Communications of Bellows Falls and Finger Lakes Technologies Group (FLTG).  Financial terms of these transactions were not disclosed.
