Vermont Business Magazine Sugarbush Resort has received both the Governor’s Wellness Award and the Vermont Leadership Award from the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. Sugarbush wins its third Governor’s Wellness Award in recognition of the resort’s Safety, Environment, Wellness Committee (SEW). The award highlights worksites around the state and their efforts to promote the health and wellness of employees. Initiatives undertaken by the SEW Committee include having staff complete Personal Safety Plans, educating staff and guests on recycling and composting, creating fitness opportunities for staff, implementing an Employee Wellness Meal Program, and introducing a staff hydration plan with reusable water bottles and filling stations.
Sugarbush won the award in 2014 and 2015 thanks to several safety and wellness initiatives which included establishing a tobacco-free environment, and creating an employee wellness program that introduced discounted or free membership to the resort’s health and recreation center and flexible work schedules to enable employee participation in wellness activities.
A letter from the Department of Health to Sugarbush stated, “Wellness Committees, and the people who participate on these committees, are critical to the success of worksite health and wellness initiatives.”
The resort also won the Wellness Leadership Award. Sugarbush’s Owner and President, Win Smith, has been selected to receive the award from a strong field of seven finalists. Janet Franz, Chairwoman of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, stated in a letter that Smith “sets a strong example for Vermont business leaders in sustaining a culture of wellbeing.”
Both awards will be presented at the Vermont Worksite Wellness Conference on Thursday, March 23rd at the Sheraton Hotel in Burlington, VT.
