Veteran Vermont Chamber Vice President is the Travel Person of the Year

Vermont travel industry expert Sue Kruthers was named the 2003 Travel Person of the Year at the 21st Annual Vermont Travel Industry Conference (VTIC) November 19, 2003 in Stowe.
The VTIC is an independent non-profit organization comprised of a coalition of state, private, non-profit, and business organizations. Each year, a special committee selects the Travel Person of the Year based on the following criteria:
* Encourages travelers to visit the state

* Helps position Vermont as a friendly and fun place to visit

Professional Brewing Course in Middlebury

The American Brewers Guild Brewing School will be hosting it’s professional brewing class, at Otter Creek Brewing, in Middlebury Vermont, from December 1st to 6th, 2003. The American Brewers Guild, one of only three professional brewing schools in the country, is now headquartered in Salisbury, Vermont. The residential week of the Intensive Brewing Science and Engineering and Craftbrewer’s Apprenticeship Programs will host 20 students and four instructors and is a culmination of 21 weeks of learning.

that The Equinox Resort and Spa has been ranked as the
number 36th Ski Resort in North America by Conde Nast Traveler Magazine.
The ranking appears in the December 2003 issue. "This is a great

GMP Announces Third Quarter Earnings

Green Mountain Power Corporation (NYSE: GMP)announced consolidated earnings of $0.59 per share of common stock, diluted, for the third quarter of 2003 compared with earnings of $0.52 per share for the same period in 2002. Year to date earnings for 2003 are $1.60 per share, diluted, compared with earnings of $1.41 per share for the first nine months of 2002.

Rule Change Will Allow More Small Businesses to Qualify for SBA Assistance

The U.S. Small Business Administration has increased its revenue-based size standard for small businesses in the facilities support services industry from $6 million in average annual receipts to $30 million.
The new size standard will allow more companies to qualify for small business assistance and compete as a small business for federal contracts. It was published as a final rule in the Federal Register on October 15, 2003, and is effective on November 14, 2003. Under the new rule, the sub-category of base maintenance will also increase from $23 million to $30 million.

New Hampshire Architect Chairs Jury for Two Prestigious AIA Awards

M. Hunter Ulf, AIA, recently chaired a jury of six architects in Washington, D.C. to select the recipients for the two highest honors bestowed by the national American Institute of Architects (AIA) Board of Directors – the Gold Medal Award and the Architecture Firm Award. The Gold Medal Award is given to an individual in recognition of significant work with lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture. The Architecture Firm Award is conferred upon an architecture firm for consistently producing distinguished architecture.

VINS Educators Win Prestigious Awards

Educators at VINS (Vermont Institute of Natural Science)
recently won two of the three annual awards given by the New England
Environmental Education Alliance.
Jenna Guarino, director of VINS's Environmental Citizenship program, was
recognized with the 2003 Non-formal Environmental Educator Award and
VINS's Community Mapping Program received the Maria Pirie Environmental
Program Award.

Vermont Public Television Staffers Earn PBS Development Awards

The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) recently honored members of the
Vermont Public Television staff with national awards for their local
fundraising efforts in the 2003 fiscal year. Besides recognizing
fundraising success, the awards cite innovation and best practices. VPT's
vice president for marketing and development, Lee Ann Lee, and her staff
were recognized for overall development. Sharing the honor were Peter
Shea, Paul Ugalde, Scott Schultz, David Donegan, Jeffrey Nelson, Brennan
