Islands Chamber Chooses New Director

The Lake Champlain Islands Chamber of Commerce has a new Executive Director. The Chamber Board appointed Ruth Wallman, a resident of Burlington, effective immediately. The Islands Chamber of Commerce, located in North Hero, also serves as Grand Isle County’s Regional Planning Corporation and Small Business Development Center, and is the home base for the Regional Marketing Organization for Grand Isle and Franklin Counties.
Wallman was the University of Vermont’s Director of Government Relations from 1987 to 2000, and was the Executive Director of First Night Burlington from 2000 to 2002. Most recently Wallman was the Public Engagement Coordinator for the Child Care Fund of Vermont, a component fund of the Vermont Community Foundation, from 2002 to 2003. She writes for several local newspapers. A graduate of Barnard College and Yale School of Drama, Wallman is a member of the board of the Trinity Children’s Center, and serves on the Flynnarts Education Advisory Committee.
