Fiddlehead Brewing Company owners Matt and Amy Cohen and their son Noah present a donation to the UVM Children’s Hospital to Eileen Whalen, RN, MHA, president and chief operating officer of the UVM Medical Center, and Lewis First, MD, chief of Pediatrics at the UVM Children’s Hospital.

Vermont Business Magazine Fiddlehead Brewing Company of Shelburne, VT recently donated $119,406 to The University of Vermont Children’s Hospital to improve spaces in which teens and younger children can relax and play while they are inpatients. The money was raised through sales of Fiddlehead Brewing’s Mastermind beer.  Proceeds were donated to a Vermont team that participated in a 24-hour video gaming marathon called “Extra Life” which benefits hospitals in the Children’s Miracle Network.  Noah Cohen, son of Fiddlehead owners Matt and Amy Cohen, organized “Team Mastermind” which participated with teams from throughout the United States and Canada in the fundraising effort.

The funds from Fiddlehead can sales, the fundraising efforts of nearly 300 additional Extra Life participants, and other contributions brought the total funds raised by Team Mastermind to $141,000. This record-breaking amount made the UVM Children's Hospital the top per capita fundraiser in the event, triggering an additional $30,000 gift from the Entertainment Software Association Foundation. This is Fiddlehead Brewing’s third year participating in Extra Life, and its largest donation yet to the hospital.

“I’m incredibly appreciative of the support and loyalty of our customers who turned out to purchase Mastermind, and who share our passion for a cause that is so important both to my family and our community in Vermont and upstate New York,” said Matt Cohen. “Through their support, we will be able to impact the lives of many children and families. Using our success to help others is one of the great privileges of owning my own business,” he added.

“The support of community members like the Cohens and their team of supporters is vital to our children’s hospital, and this donation will certainly bring many smiles to our pediatric patients,” said Lewis First, MD, chief of pediatrics at The University of Vermont Children’s Hospital.

“The Cohens and Fiddlehead Brewing offer a powerful example of how small businesses can cultivate a philanthropic spirit and make a big difference in our community,” he added.
