Vermont Treasurer Pearce named president of national association

Vermont Business Magazine The National Association of State Treasurers (NAST) announced that it has elected Vermont State Treasurer Beth Pearce as its 2018 President during the association’s annual conference in Boston. Treasurer Pearce will succeed outgoing President Ken Miller, the State Treasurer of Oklahoma, on January 1, 2018.

Muzzleloader antlerless deer permit winners announced

Vermont Business Magazine Deer hunters who applied for a Vermont muzzleloader season antlerless deer permit by the August 24 deadline can now go to the Vermont Fish & Wildlife website (https://anrweb.vt.gov/FWD/FW/AntlerlessLotteryWinners.aspx) to see if they won a permit. Fish & Wildlife announced the winners on September 22, after conducting a randomized computer drawing. Permit winners are listed in two categories: regular lottery winners and landowners.

Weekly unemployment claims low and getting lower

Vermont Business Magazine Weekly unemployment claims fell under 300 claims last week and remain at a historically low level. Claims have been falling steadily since early July. Claims also are lower than they were the same time last year, which has been the case for most weeks in 2017. For the week of September 16, 2017, there were 294 claims, 12 fewer than than they were last week and 56 fewer than they were a year ago.

Nurses at Porter Medical Center ratify new contract

Vermont Business Magazine The University of Vermont/Porter Medical Center in Middlebury announced today a new, three-year contract with the union representing the Porter nursing staff that will run through September 30, 2020. The registered nurses of the Porter Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals voted on Thursday to ratify a new collective bargaining agreement, their second contract since organizing in 2013. The contract was reached after four months of negotiations.
