Joined by Governor Phil Scott, the Rutland Young Professionals have announced the 3rd Annual Young Professionals Summit of Vermont. The Summit will be held in downtown Rutland at the Paramount Theater on Saturday, September 9th at 8:30 am and will welcome young professionals from across the state.
“Attracting and retaining more young professionals in Vermont is critical to growing our economy and is something my Administration has made a priority, including a focus on affordable housing for our workforce, investment in downtown development and co-working spaces that support small start-up businesses,” Scott said. “Vermont has a lot to offer. We are the healthiest and safest state, with one of the best education systems in the country. But we must do more to grow our working age population and support the young professionals who are already here. This summit is a great opportunity to learn directly from that community.”
This year’s Summit will include a wide range of presentations from leaders across the state, offering opportunities for personal and professional development, and community engagement. The Summit will also highlight thriving Vermont industries, including the micro-brewery sector, where Vermont is widely recognized as a national leader and the green energy sector. Utility leader Mary Powell will be the Summit’s keynote speaker.
Summit Co-Chairs, Amanda O’Brien and Laura Pierce both grew up in Vermont and after careers took them separately to Chicago and New York, both chose to return in part due to the positive energy and hard work of those who have worked to establish Young Professional organizations across the state.
“The Young Professional network that exists across Vermont and in our hometown of Rutland provided us with natural opportunities to connect with peers, network and get engaged in our communities,” said O’Brien. “Knowing this support exists helped us make the leap and return to Vermont. The Young Professionals Summit aims to bring together young professionals across the state, provide them with this critical support and encourage others to make Vermont their home.”
