First annual Ted Bridges Hospitality Golf Tournament (May 14)
Friends, colleagues and family will come together on Monday, May 14 at Green Mountain National Golf Course for the First Annual Ted Bridges Hospitality Scholarship Golf Tournament, to celebrate the life, laughs and accolades of Ted Bridges, an icon in the Killington community and an ambassador to the State of Vermont’s tourism industry. Bridges passed away in 2009 after complications from heart surgery.
Money raised from this annual tournament is for the Ted Bridges Hospitality Scholarship, awarded annually to a student seeking that same passionate career path that Bridges took. Recipients must be a Vermont resident who will pursue education or training related to hospitality, culinary or tourism at an accredited school approved for federal Title IV funding. Financial need and academic achievement must be demonstrated.
As reporter Bruce Edwards wrote for the Rutland Herald back in 2009, Ted's "contributions to the tourism industry were recognized in 2001 when he was named the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Travel Person of the Year... In 1997, Gov. Howard Dean named Bridges an Ambassador of Vermont in recognition of his work promoting the state throughout the world… A Killington resident, he was a past vice president of the Killington Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the boards of the Vermont Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Vermont Lodging and Restaurant Association, Killington Music Festival and the local board of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra.”
The format of the tournament is a 5-person team, $100/person and will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. The day includes lunch at the golf course, dinner at the Lookout Tavern on Killington Road, 18-holes of golf with a cart and great memories. Non-golfers can join golfers at the dinner for $20/person.
Prizes will be awarded for top Gross and first, second and third Net, plus closest to the pin, longest drive, and more. Raffles, a silent auction, which will include a season pass including cart at the Killington Golf Course for the 2012-2013, and more will also help in raising money for the scholarship fund. To register, golfers should email Phil Black atlookoutvt@gmail.com or call the Lookout at 802.422.LOOK. More information can be found at www.facebook.com/TedBridgesScholarship.
